Flat hunting in Australia is a slightly different process to that in the UK. You find a flat on the Internet, arrange a viewing (which is either a Wednesday or a Saturday), complete an application and then wait to see if the landlord chooses you. The Girl and I saw three places the other week. One was rough around the edges but with potential in a lovely area. Another one was modern with a balcony, but was tiny. The last one was just amazing. We spent our first two days in and around the Circular Quay and Rocks area with The Girl’s family. We walked around the Royal Botanical Gardens where we spied bat filled trees, ate lunch at the Sydney Opera House, and poked our heads around one of the oldest buildings in Australia. It was a lovely way to spend our first few days and it also served as a gentle introduction to meeting all of The Girl’s family who were all very keen to see her and meet me. After a…

We all awoke feeling fairly refreshed at 06:30am for the short drive to Heathrow on 30 June. The journey there was uneventful, though we did briefly lose The Girl in Terminal 3. The Vincent family took action – splitting into teams and tracking her to the check-in desk. The night before we left, The Girl and I were franticlly moving things from her bag to my bag then from my bag to hand luggage; desperately trying to stay below the 23kg limit. Both of our bags ended up weighing 24kg…
